Welcome to Cottage Core – a collection inspired by the idyllic country lifestyle, perfect for cottages, seaside houses, or cozy homes where nature takes center stage. With its romantic and timeless patterns, the collection captures the essence of the simple and charming life in the countryside, where every wallpaper tells a story of harmony, nostalgia, and natural beauty. A collection where tradition meets personal expression.
In the first release, Cottage Core I, we are introduced to beautiful designs created by designer Adeline-Julie Bee.

We interviewed Adeline-Julie to get to know her a little better:

About the process & inspiration

What inspired you to create this collection?

My first source of inspiration came from the visual material I received, which really helped me step into the theme of “summer cottages/seaside houses.” My inspiration is deeply rooted in nature, especially in its botanical elements. The coastal theme emerges through details such as the heron. Often, small impressions from walks spark ideas – a play of light, vegetation, or the texture of a flower. Inspiration often comes when you least expect it – in nature’s quiet or the stillness of night.

How would you describe your creative process when designing wallpapers?

I take a lot of photographs in nature and often think, “I want to paint this and turn it into a pattern.” I collect images of flowers, leaves, berries, animals, and textures – sometimes I find small “treasures” along the way that feel like they’re waiting for me to transform them. I start by sketching ideas in a grid format, then build a collection and refine the details. I paint in watercolor or digitally, then continue working in Illustrator or Photoshop.

Do you work mostly digitally, traditionally, or a combination of both?

Both – but paper and watercolor are my favorites.

Do you have a particular place, time, or routine you return to?

I don’t have a strict routine – I step into the studio, start painting or sketching, and lose myself in the process. I often begin by making small brushstrokes of flowers and leaves with ink I make myself. I then gather these digitally and continue building in Illustrator into finished forms and patterns.

About style & expression

How was it working with Wallpassion? What was the most fun or most challenging part?

It’s been a fantastic experience. The collaboration was open and creative, and I felt a great deal of trust, which gave me the freedom to create. The most challenging part was meeting the technical requirements – an important reminder of the practical boundaries of creativity.

Which techniques or tools do you use most often?

I love Liberty-inspired motifs, small twigs, millefleurs, ogee, and scallop shapes. I often start with sketches on paper or tablet but also experiment in Illustrator. I use both digital and traditional techniques – watercolor, ink, brushes, gouache, and digital brushes that mimic those mediums.

What do you want people to feel when they see your wallpapers?

I want them to feel calm and connected to nature – that the wallpaper becomes a reminder to breathe, pause, and experience stillness. Whether it’s a small leaf or a flower, I want it to create harmony and wonder. I want to bring nature into the room – as a poetic presence on the walls.

Personal

What does it mean to you to see your designs on someone else’s walls?

It’s deeply meaningful. Knowing that my work becomes part of someone’s daily life and brings warmth, stillness, and beauty – that’s special. It reminds me that design and art have the power to bring joy and foster connection.

Do you have a favorite pattern in the collection – and if so, which one and why?

Medaillon Poppies is my favorite. When I created it, I wasn’t thinking about Art Nouveau or folk art – but it just turned out that way. I love when something unexpected happens during the creative process.

The collection offers a dreamy mix of small- and large-floral wallpapers, classic stripes, soft leaf motifs, and subtle textures that create a cozy and harmonious atmosphere. The color palette is inspired by nature’s transitions – with shades of pale pink, muted greens, earthy tones, and soft pastels that blend seamlessly into a rustic setting.

A tribute to traditional craftsmanship and Scandinavian rural charm

The Cottage Core collection combines the best of vintage charm and modern elegance. The patterns are carefully created, inspired by traditional textiles, botanical illustrations, and turn-of-the-century wallpaper art. Each design has been thoughtfully developed to suit both the classic cottage style and Scandinavian coastal romanticism.
